This model, known as The Leaping Pekinese or The Pekinese and the Parrots, has similarities with designs created by Dutch ornamentist Cornelis Pronk, who was commissioned by the directors of the VOC, around 1734-1738, to carry out ornamental projects intended to decorate porcelain from the Compagnie des Indes. The drawings for this particular model have not been found but were probably made by Pronk’s workshop (David S. Howard and John Ayers, China for the West, vol. I, London, 1978, p. 296).
